there are only so many hours in a day, and I think that more women will increase the workload exponentially, since they start competing with eachother for your attention.
So some women would obtain relatively few resources as compared to the others. (these women typically think you `spoil' the others).
these women still require a minimum of resources though, so indeed, the amount of work does not grow linearly.
There ofcourse is only a fixed amount of work any man can and is willing to perform.
Hence there is an upperbound to the number of women a man can store.
Therefore, there is a lowerbound to the number of men it takes to store all the women.
Ofcourse not all women are equally important reproductively speaking.
Some genes are better than others.
Needless to say that women with 'nice' genes will have a higher priority. Hence more men are willing to take care of them.
The larger the harem of any one man, the less important the women in that harem.
It seems to me that non white races are fundamentally aware of the non importance of their genes, due to the fact that they do not practice monogamy.
