>Start out school wanting to be a scientist
>Have barely learned more than basic science and mathematics because my school system was a joke
>University I applied to is "excellent" in all the sciences
>Sign on for Biology (BS)
>Expect to get a decent, scientific, education
>Expect to be surrounded by fellow science nerds and intellectuals
>Receive nothing more than a break neck crash course through the fundamentals of biology
>Chemistry supplement is a joke
>Math instructors are either unintelligible street shitters or turbo autists incapable of teaching
>Every person in the department is an Adderall addicted pre-med
>Graduate students are toxic Doomers and ultra normies
>Work as a lab assistant for 6 months
>Literally just a cleaning guy and mule on research trips
>PhD student I worked for was "too busy" to teach me anything
>Learn absolutely fuck all in two years
>Discover a passion and skill for anthropology
>Receive a really thorough and high quality anthropological education
>Writing skill improves, taught how to scientifically think, problem solve, form relationships between many things, etc
>Can't get into graduate school because I was too poor to afford field school
>No one even knows what in the fuck I studied and when I explain in the most simplistic manner they look at me with drool on their lips
I'm not studying Geographic Information Systems / Science and learning the appropriate programming (Python and SQL) to go with it.
When did science and mathematics education go absolutely to shit? When did premeds decide a BS in Biology was a decent route? Why was I made fun of for wanting to be a research biologist by premeds? At least the Geography people are nice to me.
