Mods deserve everything they get.
If the Jap really wanted to help the site, and if the site really was dying due to advertisers not touching it, he would simply restrict the number of users so as to have fewer server costs.
Instead, we have seen hyperspecialisation of boards combined with heavy policing of discourse blurring, which prevents the crosspolination of ideas. We have simultaneously seen bans on all the ways of thought that people used to come here specifically to do, most notably racism.
People on 4chan used to love mods. Mods were gods and they proudly posted why people were banned.
Now the bans are done passive aggressively and in secret. 24 hr all board bans that are unappealably short. The mods even know that what they're doing is repulsive.
Blaming the new users and trying to detect them is really fucking pointless. Twitter is now a more fertile site of discourse growth than 4chan.
And the people who run 4chan, or the people who pressured those people, have done this. The blame lies solely with them. They have my utter contempt and they're why I won't work with the current establishment.
It's also highly suspect that mods are lax on banning loli and shota on /b/, and even /r9k/, which makes going on those boards de jure illegal for many people over the world. (Although I've never heard of an actual prosecution.)
It's almost like 4chan has been identified as a threat to the powers that be and had its nuts cut off, while legal traps have been left here.
Btw, the spamming of gore, layers of irreverence (that is now IMPOSSIBLE to develop because of the banning of "shitposting" outside /b/), and racism/trolling, are the things that kept normalfags out, or at least acted as a filter keeping them to reasonable numbers and encouraging lurking.
