Is it n ormal that I love organic compounds themselves so much?
Im a chemistry major currently in organic ii. Like, just the chemicals themselves fascinate me. A while ago I was being toured thru a chemistry lab I will join, and there was a random sigma aldrichbbottle of bromododecane sitting on a counter (dont know what it's being used for, I should ask) and I thought that was so cool, this clear liquid with molecules bouncing around that have exactly 12 carbons and 1 bromine. I also got to see a cabinet with hundreds of chemicals from sigma, acros, etc, and that was beautiful, like i was shown a bottle of fluorobenzene. One of the most exciting parts of lab classes is seeing the chemicals we use and gawking at them and the products. It's weird because I dont alsays understand the real world uses of these things, besides obvious applications like NaOH lye and long chain molecules in detergents. just love chemicals themselves.
The smells are even better. Every organic chemical has a unique smell.
This love for chemicals makes organic chemistry am easy A+, and when I approached professor fir research, they said I'm the only one they've seen who truly likes organic chemistry. Seems everyone else thinks its boring, sees bottles of chemicals as boring clear liquids and white solid .
I just started a home lab so I can make organic chemicals for the hell of it, such as phenol from aspirin
