Humans seek dominance, especially males since we're a tournament species, civilization provided us a way to play the tournament in a relatively peaceful way up until now.
Automate evrything, put a bunch of idle men only getting crumbs and you will soon have a revolution on your hands.
That said automation has began long ago and the elite coped with that by creating bullshit jobs, it's a trend I expect to see continue. If the internet keeps growing then the economy of the future will be an attention economy (with a handful of families controlling the material economy).
That's a very bad news for the autists or sub 8/10 males of the future.
