He did help push the need for widescale GPU use, maybe he can do the same for whatever hardware might be needed for agi

Not just an idea guy, if you watch some of his technical speechs it's clear he's also a serious engineering project lead at a minimum.

Formal education isn't everything. He places more importance on product/work/engineering than IQ/GPA tests. The guy's a polymath genius if ever in a modern world. Read the guy's profile on how he works in within his companies, he's involved with almost all the department's engineering team. Not only that, the guy is surrounded by other geniuses(not just engineering geniuses but also across the fields in multiple technology) that would put most people involved in those industry to shame. On top of that, ~40% of the US engineering graduates want apply to his companies, higher than any other company by >2x margin. You're not going to become the engineer's idol if you're not an engineer yourself.

Video games, rockets, virtual reality, bunch of open source program contributes over the years, everyday programmer, etc.

His wide range of knowledge will be a welcome to the AI field. Any of the biggest AI company would welcome his addition, including OpenAI, DeepMind, Google, Tesla etc.

The former I believe is obvious, as he has no knowledge on the workings of intelligent machinery (nor does anyone really for that matter) and the latter I applaud because I like ambitious acts, but it's a bit egotistical to post about it on twitter don't you think?
