I'm aware this barely fits into /sci/ but figured it'd be best to post here
Basically the point of this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqCOss4hqnE ) was to describe the state of "higher consciousness" in less general terms than those used by people in advanced religious positions (monastic Hindus, Buddhist gurus, etc.).
The video describes it as being less involved with the simpler thoughts and desires of being alive (wanting to eat, sleep, fuck, whatever) and being more compassionate and open to viewing other peoples' situations. Is it really that simple?!
I was under the impression that higher consciousness/enlightenment/whatever was an immensely transformative experience, but the way it's described in the video and from what I've gathered from some of the religious texts describing it such a state seems to have much less import than it normally is associated with.
What I'm getting at is that, at least how it's described here, having this sort of experience isn't rare for me. It certainly isn't constant, but I'm pretty familiar with the types of thinking the guy noted (seeing other peoples' actions as a result of various pressures instead of malice, seeing connections between disparate things).
Am I deluding myself into thinking I'm special, or is this experience way more common than everyone says it is? If any of y'all have entered higher consciousness, is it really as unique as described? I'm so confused
(once again, sorry it isn't strictly science or math, but philosophy [at least practical philosophy] feels like it should fall under this board
