When the chapters in the recommended textbooks are shorter than the notes, they're no longer notes. That's like having Cliff Notes on Hamlet longer than Hamlet itself.

One of my lecturers wrote his own notes, two entire books worth of notes, and printed them out. 450 pages long. In fact, all of my lecturers use notes they've written. I don't have to buy books, I only need to look at their notes.
