I'm still trying to understand how anesthesia works from a brain perspective. When it happened to me, my experience was normal awareness, and then there was a fast loss of time and a very confusing and broken and hard to remember memory, I remember regaining almost normal consciousness halfway through the surgery and I could hear and see in a fairly normal and not broken way, I heard them saying that they were half done with the surgery to each other and then I went under again, I didn't feel anything or smell or taste at all, I could ONLY see and hear at this point and then I didn't remember anything else again until it was over and I was a bit unsure of why I was in my current state it was like I was just suddenly "like that" after it was over, I felt like I was thinking "slower" and moving "slower" as well for a little bit and then it became normal not long after. So what exactly do the drugs do to the brain that causes this effect? And also, do people fully understand what happens, or do they just do it because the results seem to work?
