The rate was much slower than what is being burned today but life survived so a scenario where Earth becomes uninhabitable is extremely unlikely. We just need to look at the Eocene thermal maximum to get an idea of what Earth will be like.
All life moved to the poles as the tropics became an unlivable dead zone.
