What's /sci/ opinion on teleco engineering? Should I switch from EE or nah? What's the job prospects like? Any fellow teleco engineers or professionals here?

That's actually a possibility. I'm from Argentina and to study teleco I would need to apply and pass the entrance examinations for Instituto Balseiro, which is the only place where you can study teleco. It also offers nuclear engineering and physics. It's suppoused to be top notch, many famous physicist like maldacena stem from there.

I have a video interview with Verizon soon. There are brainlet level jobs like installing and maintaining poles (ie on the civil engineering side of things) and there are big brain jobs like Digital Signal Processing where all the $ is

You'd be surprised how in depth and interesting it gets. I did one telecoms modules in my final year of undergrad and it remains one of my favourite modules I've taken.

Depends on the course work that the EE takes. If you do a general EE degree you will be equipped with all the basics you'll need to learn the stuff yourself. If you've already done some telecoms stuff and you like it then switch, you can always branch off into RF engineering if you miss the hardware design, which is what I did.
