A cat cannot be both alive and dead at the same time.
The consciousness thing was because when they were doing the twin slit experiment with electrons, and electrostatic discharge was building up on the material that the slits were made in.
It was an early experimental and the scientists got a randomised interference pattern and didn't know why they got a different result each time, then explained it away with "the active observer"
It's just a simple misinterpretation of an early experiment, nothing more.
