Ben, this sounds like Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed. It gets taught at many teaching colleges around the US.
It's a textbook case of using Marx's haves and have not dichotomy, saying all knowledge from the haves is only based on continuing the status quo and saying all knowledge of the have nots is the path to freedom.
He writes a whole bit about banking education vs problem posing education. He sides with the problem posing, but only allows for one inevitable result, agreeing with his premises. The banking education system fills students and problem posing education breaks down the vertical hierarchy between teacher and student. Thus, you pointed out the contradiction of having education at all if education presumes no one person's knowledge is better than another.
Freire's probable counter argument would be the 'mediation of reality,' however, this is predetermined reality that proves the premises.

Yes, Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed is definitely a central text in all this creepy ideology. It's useful to have as a reference when understanding all this , as it reveals a lot of the ways it is sold to teachers as an ideology . It's also very revealing if read critically , particularly in how it reveals a callous accelerationist / revolutionary orientation re seeing the individual and even overall presenting cohort of students as more fodder in war strategy than people to be enabled or empowered . The seething contempt for the "prolly masses " seeps through the cracks of the book , really reflecting how such ideologically predetermined "revolutions" express the powerful weaponisation the supposed interests of the oppressed (or vulnerable framed as oppressed as the case may be ) that mostly veiw the actual wellbeing and actual self determined interests of those vunerable/ oppressed as stumbling blocks to steamroller over and to demand others avoid sentiment over.
