Of course most people get all up in my face when I say this because their pride gets in the way of logic and reason, which ironically just proves my point all that much more.
Put people under pressure for a while and you find out how right I am, they start acting on instinct instead of using higher reasoning abilities. Also look at the news and crime reports, and especially shit going on in the Middle East; would a truly, deeply sentient species do shit like that to each other? Rhetorical question, the answer is a resounding 'NO!'.
Our entire civilization is just really a thin patina painted over the animals we still are under the surface, as thin as the layer of grey matter over our brains.
Give us, oh, I dunno, another few thousand years of evolution, assuming we don't extinguish ourselves, and we might be more rational, more logical, and have a much tighter control on our animal instincts and tendencies. But not right now.
