some of the results proofs and discoveries are too contrived and complicated to be sure about but they aren't laws just research.
So basically no they know what they are doing because laws aren't as difficult to prove as each conjecture and theorem that has been acknowledged as solved or whatever, but mistakes are being made for sure.
