Currently looking into US universities to get a useless chemistry PhD. Everyone I have contacted has effectively said I need to write some letter in what amounts to how I as a white european am privileged and how POC's are important to me and my field.

STEM profs usually aren't the problem (with quite a few exceptions). The ones who are realize that they've already made it and no longer have to give a shit about their own race/sex/sexual orientation and do it for public appearance. 99% of this shit is the fault of parasitic administrators who want applicants to demonstrate how easy they are to control.
