I suppose this is more of a philosophical question. They obviously react to injury, but do they “suffer”? Vegans don’t eat animals because they feel pain and suffer, but should this be extended to plants in the future?
Assume that the technology for creating artificial meat grown from cells has matured in the future, and that they could also create plant based foods with this method. Should eating naturally grown plants be outlawed as cruelty? What about cutting your lawn?
