There was a moron in the 1960s that popularized the idea that glass was a liquid with high viscosity because old glass in windows sagged, but it turned out to be just bad manufacturing that made the sags.

The crystalline structure of glass is so stable that it doesn't move even a picometer in thousands of years. It is such a stable structure that we use it for millennial storage of information. It even becomes more stable under compression, and if it wasn't for the shear weakness, it would be much stronger than steel under stress.

My professor of enginering materials literally just told me this last week, that it is a liquid for this reason.

It's a solid. It's not a liquid with a viscosity of 1000000000000000000000000000 no matter how hard you want your definition of glass to be true. The molecules that compose the glass cannot move past each other - this is the case with solids, not with liquids.

I remember hearing about this. What about the stained glass windows in cathedrals from 1000 years ago that are thinning at the tops of each individual pane in the window and getting thicker at the bottoms? Not really arguing with you but I want to understand the explanation for that, I remember *seeing* it.
