A better question to ask I think, can regenerative braking occur in a vehicle isolated in space?
Imagine a vehicle's momentum being transferred into angular momentum, perhaps angular momentum stored in flywheels, thereby slowing down the vehicle, until the momentum to the vehicle wants to be restored. Is it possible?
And a followup, if such a thing was possible, what are the hard physical limitations of such a device?
