Weed IS in all cases better than SSRI's (been on them for two years and quit), but you can't compare them when it comes to treating depression at all. Weed is also very addictive, in a subtle way. I could smoke a fat blunt and show up to work and no one would notice so it didn't seem like a problem before I decided to quit.
Remember that the first week of quitting was hell on my mental state. I had physical pain in my frontal lobe, bursts of anger and wrath, sweaty palms which I never had before and a plethora of other ails. I regressed twice and within two hits I was back to "normal". That scared me. I didn't know who the fuck I was when sober. Calling me weak speaks volumes about you. Either you are addicted in denial, or smoke rarely so you don't know shit.
When the word "addict" comes up people think of meth/heroin junkies and weed is far from that insidious, but it still is a mind altering substance you depend on to be happy if you do it often.
What pisses me off is that I listened to people who say "cures depression dude" and it fucking didn't. It was just ok to be depressed cause my thought pattern was altered to be content while high. Therefore I also did nothing else but smoke to alleviate the depression. Later I realized those people (me included for a long period) just want to drag others down because they themselves fell for it. It's nothing they do by purpose, it comes natural in that state of mind.
Don't tell depressed people to do drugs cause someone might hear it in public and fuck your shit up.
