Not science, but it's weird to me every time someone (usually a foreigner) declares that the U.S. hypocritically would never tolerate a domestic independence movement.
It's absolutely legal and acceptable to advocate for a state to secede from the Union. It would require a Constitutional amendment, and those are hard to come by nowadays, but it's not unthinkable.
