I think the main competition hand calculators have are cloud computing machines like wolfram or simple in line processing with, for example, ipython or jupyter notebooks
Even the plotting is done faster

I think it's only engineers that use them. I did a math/physics double major and in every class I ever took calculators were either banned entirely or restricted to only a basic scientific calculator.

There are a handful of high-end graphing calculators that have touch screens and can present arbitrary graphics in their in-built textbooks. They're mostly not exam-legal though which makes them kind of useless for the largest market and most common use-case.

i mean a hp50g is like the god tier of modern calculators (though im still a 89 man). My buddy uses a earlier nspire CAS (not with that colored screen the one with the more traditional screen) i bought it for him for like 30 bucks and its better hardware wise than a 89 titanium

That’s not necessarily true, new calculators like the Tnspire CAS CX series 2 looks decently “modern” with a “modern” UI. I mean do you expect your calculator to have a 1080p OLED panel or something?
