What's your favourite structural analysis tool?
For 2D quick checks I'm using ftool, but it's a pain

Structural engineers will become largely obsolete within 10 years because topology optimization is getting pretty goddamn good. Topology optimization software can now design that beam structure you analyzed in about the time it took you to run it. Topopt research is moving into optimizing turbulent fluid flow and neutron transport because there's almost nothing left to do in structural engineering. My advice to you is to learn Plato3d:

do robust optimization then. In robust optimization you just specify that your boundary conditions are within some range. Stress constrained optimization also got gud and that's fixed much of the problem because topopt can take the structure's self weight into account in the design.

Barely any aspect of the project was peer reviewed, to a point of criminal liability. It was a failure at every level across multiple institutions.
Reading engineering forums, at the time of the collapse every rubbernecking structural was wondering why the contractor hadn't supported the span properly before the cable stays were installed, because surely that retarded-looking concrete truss wasn't meant to hold itself up.
