I did not really know where to post this, but /sci/ seemed to be a good idea because of your objective outlook on things.
Sometimes when falling asleep, I will experience an incredibly loud ringing in my ears that gets progressively louder for around three seconds. During this ringing I will oftentimes have vivid hallucinations, but still am capable of lucid thought (in fact, I feel quite awake). If I open my eyes, the ringing immediately ceases. Just last night I had this experience. I can close my eyes, experience the ringing, then open my eyes and stop the ringing. It gets to a point where I can do it on command just by adjusting my eyes. I did this around thirty times before I sat up in bed, woke up a bit, then laid back down and went to sleep without event. Also when it happened last night, if I let the ringing go on for longer than usual, I would feel my body begin to become paralyzed, finding great difficulty in moving my hands. If I opened my eyes after experiencing this paralysis, my whole body would shake intensely while I became able to move again. This shaking would last only around a second.
The ringing is definitely not tinnitus, because I have tinnitus and know what it is like. This ringing is far louder, and causes a bodily sensation that I am going to "explode." It is not painful, but uncomfortable. Most times I experience this, I do not let the ringing reach its end by opening my eyes. There have been a few times that I have let the ringing end. The first time, I fell asleep and woke up feeling peaceful without any recollection of what happened. The other time, the ringing just ended, but I was still awake and felt very peaceful.
I experience this around once a week or every other week. It varies in intensity greatly, sometimes I will only experience it once, and opening my eyes will end it permanently for that night. Other times will be like last night, where it will go on for as long as I'm lying down.
