Even with FTL you still need rockets to leave atmosphere. FTL doesn't work in a planetary gravity field.

FTL doesn't work with any craft that has mass (or any massless particles).
It's not weight that inhibiting this, a crafts mass makes it impossible to reach even light speed.
A planetary gravity field is irrelevant.

Only if you absolutely refuse to use nuclear power supplies to operate more efficient rockets. More efficient nuclear engines like closed cycle gas core nuclear rockets and magnetoplasma rockets can easily be made with current technology. The only component lacking is willpower and ambition. A CCGCNTR or MPDR could get you to the outer planets in a few months.

NTRs are generally on the order of doubling the ISP of whatever fuel you would be burning conventionally, even if you could get 10x the ISP you could not make those trajectory times. Magnetoplasma like VASIMIR is a fucking meme because you need a power plant that produces fuckhuge amounts of power and weighs nothing, nuclear is far too heavy, solar film is a possibility if anyone can ever figure out how to stabilise acres of film without itself ripping apart and even then it's only good for the inner system.

Both have Isp measured in thousands of seconds, the nuclear lightbulb ranges from approximations of 1500-3000s, while most MPD concepts can get up past 10,000s.
