If you're doing a math major, you're doing mathematics and nothing else. Whether or not you're willing to dedicate three years of your life to study how different systems relate to each other, how definitions such as rings or Lie-algebras can be used to solve theorems otherwise solvable only by very convoluted means, is up to you.
Studying physics means studying applied mathematics except if you're consciously trying to get into Experimental physics. You're getting to study stuff that is not only theoretical but also there. Then again, you most likely only get to know it from its mathematical formalized side.
