Spin 0 particles look the same from every angle. But if a particle has non-zero spin it has a direction associated to it (which you can think of as the axis of rotation).
If you don't want to think of the particle as literally spinning that's fine, but know that angular momentum from spin can transfer to orbital angular momentum, which is ordinary rotation.
