Do you think dumb people can just choose to be smart? Not that I concede that speed of thought equals smarts. It's a part of it, but for some people their ability to perform task may have more to do with time than with others. Their result on IQ test or any other test that requires intelligence might change a lot more depending on the time given than for other people.
Laziness a bit different, certainly people with SCT can choose to be more active etc. Still low energy is not something you just wish away, anyone who has experienced sleep deprivation (everyone I presume) can tell that it's a real physical thing. And people with various conditions may experience the same phenomena even with proper sleep, is that so hard to imagine for you?
Maybe some people just have to audacity to dream that one day there might be treatment for their symptoms, rather than just looking for excuses. I'm happy with just that, even if I'm not cut any slack because of a diagnosis.
