What are the pros and cons of getting a formal diagnosis? How does it affect employment, immigration, academic eligibility, etc?

Cons:

Pros:
>Government welfare programs pay income to autists and schizoid personality disorder sufferers.
>Schizoids and Autists can actually come to enjoy their isolation in the short-term and be more happy than mentally sound peers of similar age groups, at least before the age of 40 is reached (Depression peaks after middle age usually resulting in suicide causing the low life expectancy)
>If Schizoids and autists get the time, resources and outside help necessary to fully develop and explore their interests they can actually perform well at specific niches and obtain (a limited) sense of success and belonging in society. (Sadly this is an extreme outlier and barely happens in reality due to lack of resources and outsiders willing to invest into the development of these individuals.)

All in all Schizoids and Autists are actually normal people. It's just that society wasn't build around these personality types and therefor it's excessively hard to succeed and get access to the resources needed to pursue the interests and needs these people have. My personal hypothesis is that Schizoids and Autists born in the future will be a lot more useful and personally satisfied due to things like isolated colonies on other planets. Society moving more and more digital and thus social interaction not being a barrier to entry anymore.

That's the modern problem with DSM classification. Schizoid has a distaste/apathy of social interactions. Avoidants fear social interactions but crave it. Avoidant personalities have profound loneliness issues because of their unsatisfied expectation.

This thread was never about pros and cons of having ASD or SzPD. It is about the pros and cons of getting formally diagnosed with any of those disorders.

to might be the other way, society has been getting more stimulating and work has been getting less repetitive as time has gone on. a thousand years ago, an autist could be a farmer repetitively plowing or planting, whereas now in order to have a job, you need to be a good team player.
