>>11109761You've got very alkaline soil. Tobacco and vegetables like mildly acidic soil around pH 6. Compost will help, but I think you'll need to purchase a sulfur-based fertilizer to lower it that much. Sulfates will act quickly, but plain sulfur will take time to improve the soil. Both have other important drawbacks.
Every fertilizer is different, and too much of anything will destroy your soil, so please do a shitload of research before applying anything.
