>>11108443Well, thank you for the level headed feedback man, it is actually the sort of response I was looking for.
I started working through Rudin’s Principles, but was left wanting a little bit by his take, so I’ve been tackling Tao’s Analysis. I love his rigor and grace.
I’m currently in my last semester of my business degree and prepping for exams, so the need for a plan going forward has become more urgent. But I get your gist, it’s better to approach it as a lifelong endever.
The basics of my plan are as follow (assuming a do postgrad in financial modelling):
1. Math side: Analysis -> ODE/PDE -> Stochastic processes; some other probability.
2. Programming side: Start with C -> Java -> Python.
3. Finance side: covered primary with current studies and will supplement with CFA.
This gives me with about another two years to dedicate to math and cs on the side before I need to start looking for a job. It’s the best I’ve got right now, and if anybody has any useful criticism to offer, I’m open. I also read quite a bit of literature, trade with my own portfolio, and play chess/baduk. So I do practice the analytical thinking quote often.
