You still see this at Dutch social conventions. At parties you have 2 obvious groups of people. Tall people all standing and sitting together and short people standing and sitting together.
Dutch men don't date short women and Tall women don't date short men so there is a constant push where the tallest people had the most children and to this day that's still true.
It's also one of the reasons why /pol/ doesn't apply to the Netherlands. You can't scare people with "black BBC is going to conquer you" because no Dutch girl would possibly date black manlets with shorter dicks than Dutch guys (Dutch men have an average measured penis size of 6'3 which is the highest measured penis size ever and bigger results were not measured but self-reported instead).
But the Netherlands is kinda weird compared to other EU countries. In other countries you see short women with tall men a lot but in the Netherlands this is extremely rare as short women are seen as undesirable as well. I think this is what truly pushed the average height up. Dutch men don't date down and also only want to date strong tall women. I know for me personally short women are also unattractive and my girlfriend is 6'1 while I'm 6'4
