Does the moon landing deserve it's place as the de facto representation of human scientific accomplishment and progress?

The Voyagers were pretty close.

Theres alot more to the moon landings than first impressions however. Rockets big enough to carry such a huge payload were fantastic enough without their being reliable enough for crew travel.

Go to YouTube and watch any of the videos showing 111 m of metal take to the skies on a pillar of fire, based on 1960's technology where slide rulers were used in the design. If that doesn't induce a near-religious experience you would have a problem.
