On mars your muscles will be used just as often as on earth but with a fraction of the effort, about ... 37% of the effort/force needed?. Your body should adapt. You'll just lose some, but not all, muscle and bone mass. After years with no specialized exercise you might become as weak as an old lady on earth... and being on mars would actually start to feel like being on earth crazily enough. New arrivals from earth could BTFO you.
With that being said though it may even be good for the human body due to reduced fatigue on the joints (and the connective tissue protein collagen) in the human body, which don't atrophy I think. We don't truly know until we test and find out.
>>11107164Op with my discussion above you might see why it's not likely anyone would definitively say that gravity is a reason we can't live on mars. It will present challenges but there's nothing foreseeable that will outright make it impossible to live long-term on mars. Of course when you return to earth you'll be as weak as a wheelchair bound geriatric, but still that can be corrected with therapy.
