1. Math is surprisingly important for music. Many things in musical theory relies heavily on math; you must be good at math in one way or another in order to produce quality music.

2. Many other things, like a large working memory, benefit both math and music.

That's an overstatement, understanding proportions to read scores and understand the logic behind it all (including harmony and whatever else) is the most you'll need, unless you plan to reinvent the temperate system or something. And using logic != "heavy math". You might be thinking of edgy modern theories that borrow concepts from math in an attempt to find legitimacy, but it's still not heavy math by any means.
