It is so stupidly big because with the shit-tier magnets it's using that's the only way it can gain enough confinement to most likely crack Q over one-it's magnets are so old fashioned they need liquid HELIUM to cool them-liquid nitrogen is too warm for its low-temp superconductors. It's not going to begin Dt experiments until around 2035,and isn't projected to break a Q of 1 until a few years after that. It's one of the most delayed scientific projects in history, you can find eager references to it in plasma physics papers from the early 90s that now seem hilarious.
