Don’t know where else to put this, maybe /lit/, but I’m here. The education system in America needs an overhaul. We’re getting outclassed in key subjects by other countries. What needs to be done to improve it?

A couple of my thoughts:
Grades can be completed at ones’ own pace. To pass a grade a student only has to prove mastery of that subject, be it through testing (more than just a written test) and time. If a student excels at a subject then he or she can move up the ranks quickly, and there will be incentive at the to do so like lucrative employment options or higher education.

Study will be self directed with the teacher acting as a knowledge and clarification source, as well as a coach on how to properly treat people.

Thoughts?
