Dreams are a natural occurrence that happens every night while we sleep.
In those dreams, more often than not, you meet and converse with people you know or don't know in real life. Those people are just a figment of your imagination and are not real in any sense.
But since they are a figment of your imagination, how come you can have a real conversation with them? By real I mean you don't actually know how are they going to respond to your questions, statements and actions.
I understand that the brain models them based on your memories, but they seem to be modeled in "real time" and are not "scripted".
So my question/s would be, how does the brain do that? Does it "reserve" some neurons and links between them to create this imaginary persona and then blocks your consciousness from accessing it? Could we practice to do that in our awake state? Would that actually result in split personalities?
