Part of it is that their truly are more weirdo wacky crazy people in the upper ends of the iq range. Then on top of that there is a sort of affectation people put on, consciously or not, to sort of mog on the normies. It is sort of like ridiculously good looking people wearing strange clothes or haircuts, the message is "I'm so goddamn beautiful that I can pull off looks that would make you look like a clown". For the genius and their idiosyncrasies the message is "What I bring to the table is so useful to society/our organization/etc that you are willing to put up with a whole host of behaviors that would be disqualifiers for a normal person"
