I can't seem to find relevant information about this, but since the Van Allen belt is largely an effect of solar radiation, would it be feasible to use the moon as a natural radiation shield by timing a rocket mission around a solar eclipse?
Yes I realize there are other sources of radiation but that would considerably dampen it I assume. Did they do this with Apollo?
