since this is sci do something more theoretical
maybe do a maze solver or a travelling salesman problem solver, you can make them console only if need be since you could input the distance between towns as a 2d array or input the maze as a 2d array of 1s and 0s

Tbh I've always found these kinds of suggestions really boring, because there's so much material out there already, you don't need to figure out anything. You just need to copy off some pseudocode.
