Feeling blackpilled on PhD's

I would unironically want nothing more than to spend some of the prime years of my life in my lab pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge.

Then it hits me like a ton of bricks that a PhD chemist has a higher unemployment rate than a B.S., and that salaries are a joke because academia is massively flooded with babysat VISAs who do nothing important and are content living at the lowest standard possible.

Are there any (Scientific) subjects worth pursuing that won't leave me some penniless cuck? Or am I too downtrodden and should pursue Chem if I can get into a top Grad School?
