Kids Should be Taught Data Science, Not Algebra

Wassup ma nerds.

Not even geeks use calculus or algebra in their jobs. The vast bulk of math encountered in the workplace is of a data science variety. Yet time is still wasted teaching calculus and other pointless stuff.

Maths teaching hare barely changed in decades despite the fact that new data processing tools are available that have changed work & research, and can come in handy in everyday life.

> … We surveyed 900 “Freakonomics” podcast listeners — a pretty nerdy group, we must admit — and discovered that less than 12% used any algebra, trigonometry or calculus in their daily lives. Only 2% use integrals or derivatives, the foundational building blocks of calculus. In contrast, a whopping 66% work with basic analytical software like Microsoft Excel on a daily basis.
SEE?

Teaching kids calculus is like teaching them how to use a slide-rule. END IT.
