Here's a pet theory of mine:

Consciousness has a lot of things in common with spacetime. Namely, it evolves in the same direction as time, it is formless and mostly empty like space, unless you introduce something like matter into it. Matter warps spacetime and creates gravity, so too does objects in consciousness integrate with other information in it. Could be that dark matter is nothing but a consequence of thought around 'matter'. Maybe God is pure consciousness and this is why we as humans have such correlations in the first place.
