Alright sci, I need some advice from engies and physicists. After having to take several years off study, I finally managed to get myself a place in a relatively good university in an engineering programme(UG). Even though I kinda wanted to study physics/ do exact science, I decided to go with it because I feel I wasn't smart enough to qualify for a physics program at a good uni, and also because I was told horror stories about how most of the exact science graduates go on to become data scientists or work in a field completely unrelated to their studies. So a few months have passed, and I have come to realise that this degree is not what I imagined it. I was sure it would be something like science lite, but the stuff that we do here is so hand wavy and non-rigorous that it sickens me. I also got some second hand experience regarding engineering jobs, and found out that it mainly consists of crunching numbers into Wolfram alpha or excel. Needless to say I want out. However, I am only a first year so far, so I would like to know if any engineers here can share their experiences studying and if the course does/can be a rigorous and math heavy one (which is what ideally want). Same for the jobs- anyone here can testify that it is impossible to get a relevant job with a physics degree, and whether the engineering jobs really are consisted of brainlessly sorting numbers in excel. I'd appreciate any help cause I feel like shit's gonna go bad if I don't know act now
