Charities more often than not tend to be scams, with the heads of them taking 70% of your donation, 20-25% going to paying the salaries of the workers (who do nothing), and then the last bit going to actual research. Seriously, next time you donate to a charity, ALWAYS look or ask how much of the money is split between expenses and actual donations. You would be very surprised at the ratios for many charities.
Oh, and the best part is that these scam charities say they "raise awareness", except most of them you've never even heard of. So what exactly are they doing? If they're a lung cancer charity, and they spend their money going to lung cancer conferences, then what good are they? That's like educating a statistician on statistics. I believe there are a few sites out there that rate charities based on these properties, so make sure to do your homework before lining a scammer's pockets.
