You need to start from the very foundation, Khan academy is your best friend. Finish the goals and you will have a solid foundation for your calculus and higher calculus studies. I also find that reading books that are slightly above my understanding, then going back to reading books on my level help give me a better understanding.
Regarding whether or not you should give up, that's up to you man but I advise you that you will be having an uphill battle and working twice as hard.
