If you make a controversial or straight up vitriolic statements in public you have to be ready to defend it or explain it, that's how public discourse is held in any sane society.
Otherwise you just shut the fuck up and keep it to yourself, which is what normal people do when they don't want to engage in a debate: they don't create a controversy in the first place.
You have to be a real deluded smug piece of garbage to think you're entitled to a one way communication channel where you can say shit publicly on something but the rest of the world doesn't have the right to ask you to back it up (and when they do you're somewhat the victim).
