law school is extremely hard and takes tons of work, and then even if you do that all and achieve the highest grades you can, then your degree only matters if you are at least attending an average lawschool. you need to go to a good law school for it to matter.
law is not a science, but it is a very systematic thing that resembles science in significant ways. but lawyers do not play by the same rules scientists do. their rules are much more about prestige and opinion versus the meritocracy and academic elitism that academics go by. so the rules of the game are very different.
20 years ago things were different. lawyers made the big buxx and scientists were poorfags unless they worked for nasa. but now lawyers are the poorfags and scientists are poor too unless they work for nasa. only good-school lawyers can make it any more -- a crap school JD is worthless now just like a crap school physics PhD has always been -- a fact which was not so in 1990
