>>11079904Animals (carnivores) eat other animals out of necessity for survival. "Hunting for sport", e.g., excessive killing not for subsistence is very rare in nature. A lion would not kill an extra zebra or two just for fun. A lion would kill enough zebra to feed itself, and nothing more/less.
In the 21st century, with availability of isolated supplements like B12, vitamin D, etc it is possible for humans to survive without inflicting suffering to other animals, survive on a diet that is unquestionably better for the environment, and be just as healthy. The question is why not? The only justifiable reason to consume animal protein is if you make your living based on your physical performance, you're a top echelon athlete and need the extra edge. At the very top it is unclear whether vegetarians/vegans can perform just as well as people who consume animal proteins. I know there are plenty of vegan athletes, but not everyone can have full time nutritionist on their payroll to meticulously monitor their macro/micro nutrients.
